Medical Certificates in Rome*

There are several reasons why you may need a medical certificate. If you need a Covid-19 test certificate, our medical staff will administer the rapid antigen test and your result certificate will printed for you within the 15-20 minutes following the test time. If your child is unwell, we recommend scheduling a pediatric visit within no later than 2 days than the first appearance of symptoms to ensure that the pediatrician's note will be able to cover the beginning days of their sick leave. At FirstMed, we strive to meet your and your family's needs as best as possible.

Your certificate will include the following important information:

  • name and surname

  • date of birth

  • address

  • date issued

  • expiration date

  • clinic information

  • doctor's name and signature

  • dates and reason for absence (if relevant)

*Please be advised that fitness for each medical certificate is subject to the medical professional’s evaluation and approval.

How it Works

If you are a first-time patient, we will complete a short registration. Following this, the nurse will call you back to complete an electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG), if necessary, and the doctor will proceed with the visit and physical examination. If the doctor deems you fit for the type of certificate you request, the certificate will be issued on the same day and given to the patient.

How long will my certificate last?

The length of time for the validity of each certificate will vary based on the type of certificate and the doctor's evaluation of your condition. Covid-19 test certificates are valid for 48 hours, and sick leave certificates* are generally made out for 2-3 days. If you are still unwell after the period of sick leave issued by your doctor, get in touch with them to schedule a follow-up visit and extension of the certificate.

*Certificates cannot be made retroactively or for past illnesses.

FAQs

Q: What if I am sick and need to stay home from work?

A: Generally, medical certificates for sick leave from work for an Italian employer must be created by an Italian public primary care physician (medico di base) and registered through the Italian National Public Health System (SSN). Unfortunately as a private provider, FirstMed is not authorized to issue this type of certificate. However, if you need a note (not registered through the SSN and your Italian PCP), this can be issued during your visit. Just ask about it at the front desk!
